Redwater Country Wedding

Rachel and Matt’s Redwater country wedding was an incredible day. This wedding was full of a lot of love, a lot of family and a lot of dogs.

We have known Rachel and her family for almost fifteen years. The Dockman’s come with a reputation of being the kindest, happiest, most down to earth people you will ever meet. So when Rachel and Matt got engaged we were over the moon to have been asked to photograph their wedding.

Rachel and Matt’s beautiful country wedding was held at Matt’s family acreage just east of Redwater, Alberta. The area is surrounded by rolling farm land and leafy green forests. It was easy to see why this couple fell in love with this spot. A natural cove of birch trees was the perfect backdrop for this intimate wedding ceremony.

The bride and groom had their puppy Odin, a handsome Bouvier des Flandres, as their ring bearer. Odin was walked down the aisle by Matt’s best man. Although the gentlemen looked good, it was obvious that Odin stole the show.

When it was Rachel’s turn to walk down the aisle, her mom held her hand and brought her to meet her husband to be. As the ceremony began you could see both Rachel and Matt take a deep breath, bring their hands together and settle into that beautiful calm. Together with their families, the bride and groom held a sand ceremony. This sand ceremony was something very unique. It brought together sand and soil from their family homes, where they grew up as well as from where the couple now made their home together.

Following the ceremony, a champagne toast (that turned into a champagne shower) was held in honour of the newlyweds. Family portraits are a staple of any wedding, Rachel and Matt’s portraits included their dog Odin as well as Matt’s parent’s dogs as well.

The casual and romantic country ceremony easily transitioned to an elegant evening reception. A beautiful white tent was brought in and lit with soft bare bulbs. Rustic long tables were set with soft greenery and gold accents, only adding to the romance in the air.

To end the formal program (and get the party started) the newlyweds invited their guests to participate in an epic sparkler exit.
