Antigua Destination Wedding
The best part of our job is undoubtedly the amazing couples that we get to work with. Jasmin and Imran are no exception. Their Antigua destination wedding was a week full of tradition, love, family and a lot of dancing.
This wedding was a great deal more emotional than most of the weddings we photograph. It isn’t every day that your little sister marries the man of her dreams. We are honoured to have been asked to participate in and photograph this beautiful union.
Antigua is a gorgeous picturesque island located in the calm waters of the West Indies. St James Club resort played host to the over 60 wedding guests during this week full of wedding festivities. Family and friends travelled from across Canada and the United States to be with Jasmin and Imran.
The first ceremony to take place was the Mayian. This ritual involves the cleansing of the bride and groom before the wedding ceremony. Led by the mother of the bride, guests took turns rubbing a turmeric-paste on the skin of the bride and groom.
The following evening guests were invited to dress in their finest suits and saris to attend the Choora ceremony. Here the maternal uncle places a set of red and ivory bangles upon the wrists of his niece. When the Choora was finished, the gentlemen left for their own party and the ladies continued to dance, sing and decorate their hands with Mendhi.
The morning of the wedding ceremony was sunny and bright. Following in the Sikh tradition, Jasmin and Imran would be married before noon. This made for a very early morning for the ladies getting ready. However, this early start meant that there was a lot more time for celebrating.
For their wedding ceremony, Jasmin and Imran sat upon a platform gazebo surrounded by curtains of flowers. It was important to both Jasmin and Imran that the idea of family be central to their wedding celebration. Every family member participated in the wedding ceremony to support the couple as they took their first steps together as husband and wife.
The wedding reception and dance were held at the luxuriously decorated Piccolo Mondo restaurant. Guests were treated to a beautiful steak and lobster dinner and touching toasts to the bride and groom. As the sun went down the music was turned up and this party rocked the night away.
To close off this week of adventure guests were invited to an evening sunset excursion to Shirley Heights. This historic fort overlooks the bay and is the absolute best place to watch the sunset over the ocean.
Jasmin and Imran’s wedding was an amazing adventure and we wish them a lifetime of happiness.
Thank you for inviting Deep Blue Photography to celebrate, to dance and to photograph your stunning Antigua destination wedding.
