Calgary Winter Wedding
Kirsten and Corey truly know the importance of family. It was no surprise when family and friends travelled from around the globe (as far away as Australia) to celebrate these two love birds. The day of the wedding was bright and sunny, a perfect November day for a Calgary winter wedding!
We have had the honour of knowing both Kirsten and Corey for years, as they were our next door neighbours for years. That is until last fall when they moved to Calgary and then to Cochrane. It was a bittersweet move, but simply means that we get to head to the mountains more often. One of those trips was to Canmore for their engagement session!
Winter in Alberta is truly a sight to behold. Under a bright blue sky and surrounded by freshly fallen snow Kirsten and Corey’s wedding day was straight out of a dream. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day! The wedding ceremony was held in the early afternoon at St Josephs Catholic Church in downtown Calgary. There was lots of time for family portraits with a stunning view of downtown Calgary. The couple also planned time to hang out at CharBar with their wedding party before heading to the reception.
St. Patrick’s Island is one of Calgary’s best kept secrets when it comes to outdoor portrait locations. This beautiful park is nestled between the hustle and bustle of downtown and the peaceful Bow River. We love it when our wedding couples get to spend some time just hanging out with their wedding party. They are the people who have been chosen (very carefully) to stand beside the wedding couple as they take that next step in their lives. They help represent the love and support that each individual is bringing to the marriage. The positive energy, love and uncontrollable laughter that this wedding party brought to the party was nothing short of amazing.
The wedding reception was held at the Calgary Stampede Park in the historic Rotary House building. This rustic log cabin was the perfect setting for an intimate and cozy winter wedding reception. Dinner was an authentic Stampede BBQ complete with steak and the spiciest horseradish in the west. This wedding brought together beautiful speeches, hilarious stories and a few tears as family remembered Corey’s time with the Canadian military and his two tours of Afghanistan. The first dance was anything but slow and sappy as the couple got the party kicked into high gear and the dance floor rocking.
Congratulations Kirsten and Corey, thank you for being amazing friends to us all these years and for inviting Deep Blue Photography to be there for your Calgary winter wedding.
